One-year-old girl is found ALIVE 24 hours after she was buried under rubble and dead bodies following the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia

A one-year-old girl has been found alive 24 hours after she was buried under rubble and dead bodies in Indonesia.

Little Wuhan was swept away when a powerful tsunami hit central Sulawesi shortly after a 7.5-magnitude earthquake rocked the island. Wuhan was discovered hidden underneath debris in her family's destroyed beachfront neighbourhood in Palu a day after she disappeared, CBS reported She was trapped underneath two dead bodies and surrounded by mud when she was miraculously found.

'I thank God because she has a new life,' her mother, Endang, told CBS. Endang said the family has been left homeless following the earthquake and tsunami and she is concerned about the future. But she said she is grateful to still have her little daughter. Endang has been provided with water and instant noodles to enable her to give her daughter much-needed food. The Indonesian military has been bringing in hundreds of troops to help with search and rescue efforts and to hand out water, food and clothing.

The devastating earthquake struck central Sulawesi last Friday, triggering the tsunami, with waves as high as six metres (20 feet) scouring the Palu beachfront. More than 1,400 people have been killed but there are fears the death toll could top 2,000. The earthquake brought down hotels, shopping malls and countless houses in Palu. Families have been forced to comb through body bags in an attempt to identify their missing relatives.

Nearly 70,000 people have been displaced from their homes in Palu alone, and hospitals have been overwhelmed. Families are now living in makeshift tent camps, where there is no electricity or running water and rubbish is overflowing.
