Shocking moment man, 46, gets his legs get crushed by a barrier during Utah demolition derby as spectators rush to free him.

A 46-year-old man had his legs crushed by a barrier during a demolition derby in Utah Friday night.

Shocking video shows the moment cars pile on top of each other, knocking the barricade onto the unidentified employee. The crowd is heard gasping as the man falls and is trapped under the heavy cinder block. In an instant, dozen of spectators are seen hopping out of the stands and over railings, rushing to his aid.

Wasatch County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Jared Rigby said two cars collided, sending one onto the top of a concrete barrier and hanging outside of the ring where the employee was standing. Another car came crashing into the other vehicles, causing the barrier to fall over.

'Both concrete barriers came over and landed on his legs, causing some crushing injuries to both his legs,' Rigby said. Paramedics arrived and took the man to the hospital. Rigby said he was up and walking by Sunday. Video shows dozens of people trying to push the car off of the barrier that was crushing the man. One spectator, Grant Horsley, was among those who jumped into action.

'Some of the crowd moves around and we start pushing the car. Once we got the car out of the way, it was maybe five seconds later that we were able to lift up the barricade,' Horsley told KSL. 'When you see someone in danger, or someone in pain, you want to try and take that away as best you can.

The whole community came together and tried to do that,' he added.
