'Fake News got it purposely wrong!' Trump insists media INTENTIONALLY smeared him with claim he called all immigrants 'animals' following uproar over condemning violent MS-13 gang

President held roundtable event Wednesday to condemn California 'sanctuary cities' law, and heard from a sheriff about difficulty deporting MS-13 gangsters. Trump called the Salvadoran criminals 'animals,'

drawing howls from Democrats Initial media reports omitted the sheriff's setup, making it seem like the president was denouncing all illegal immigrants or even immigrants in general On Friday the president claimed reporters got it 'purposely wrong' Democratic politicians tweeted angry censures and journalists dueled on what the president had meant Trump said Thursday that he was only referring to MS-13 and he would always see them as animals White House spokeswoman cited specific examples of gruesome murders and rapes, opinion that the president hadn't gone far enough.

Donald Trump said Friday that media reports characterizing his comments about MS-13 drug-gang 'animals' as an attack on all immigrants were constructed intentionally to harm him.

'Fake News Media had me calling Immigrants, or Illegal Immigrants, "Animals." Wrong! They were begrudgingly forced to withdraw their stories,' the president tweeted.
'I referred to MS 13 Gang Members as "Animals," a big difference – and so true. Fake News got it purposely wrong, as usual!'

When TV outlets broadcast footage Wednesday of Trump making that declaration, some including MSNBC and CNN initially omitted what had come before – a sheriff's statement specifically about the ultra-violent MS-13 Salvadoran gang. One news agency, the Associated Press, ultimately corrected its reporting on the episode.

'AP has deleted a tweet from late Wednesday on Trump’s “animals” comment about immigrants,' the news agency said on Twitter, 'because it wasn’t made clear that he was speaking after a comment about gang members.'
