Islamic Center of America considers banning visits from Israeli military members after officer joined delegation of other personnel from across globe for annual event


One of Michigan's oldest and largest mosque may ban Israeli military officers from visiting after complaints from members of its congregation.  

The Islamic Center of America (ICA) shared a post on Facebook on Friday that it was unaware that one Israeli officer was joining the delegation of 67 from across the globe that were visiting the mosque. 
'Since its establishment the Islamic Center has been at the forefront of the Arab and Muslim community's struffle to address their needs and defend their causes, here and abroad, the Center said in the post.

'Including the struggle against the illegal occupation of any Arab land.' 
According to the ICA, the center's board had no idea the Israeli officer would be included in the visit. 
'The Center never had or will have any intention of honoring such officer,' they continued. 
'Our Board of Trustees and administration will take he necessary measures to ensure that no Israeli military personnel will be received at the ICA in the future, as we continue our interfaith outreach program.'

Leaders at ICA shared with the Detroit Free Press that a final decision would be made on whether Israeli soldiers would be allowed in the future.
