'I tried to stay away from you': Man who sexually abused his step-daughter for more than five years calls himself a 'creep in the night' in letter written from prison

The private thoughts of a paedophile who repeatedly raped his step-daughter have been laid bare in a series of letters that he penned from his jail cell.

The Illawarra man - who cannot be named for legal reasons - sexually abused his partner's daughter over the course of more than five years while the girl was between the ages of eight and 13.
When the girl told her mother about the ongoing abuse - including one incident that caused her to bleed - she was dismissed out-of-hand as a liar, The Illawarra Mercury reports.
It wasn't until after her step-father had been locked away for another crime in February of 2016 that the young girl informed police, who subsequently searched the man's jail cell.

'Little did you know how hard I tried to fight….the creep in the night,' reads a poem that was found in his personal possessions.
'Little did you know how hard I tried to stay away from you because I knew what I was going to do.'
The man initially denied the poem was directed at his step-daughter, but later admitted to police that was in fact a lie.
