Mother and her seven-year-old son 'jump to their deaths' from window of 29-story Gotham Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.
A 46-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son are dead after jumping out of a window at a 29-story Midtown Manhattan hotel Wednesday morning.
The identities of the two victims have not been released. The incident happened a the Gotham Hotel, before 8:30am.
Sources told NBC New York that the woman jumped. It's unclear whether her son jumped on his own volition, or if he was forced off the building by his mother.
According to the New York Daily News, the two jumped off the building and a second-floor balcony. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The 25-floor hotel, where rooms go for about $220 a night, said that police were investigating the situation and refused to comment further.
It's located at 16 46th Street, near Fifth Avenue.
It's still unclear what prompted the jump.
Initial reports stated that the child was a baby, less than a year old, but police later corrected that initial misunderstanding.
