Kim-Trump summit in doubt: North Korea says it will NOT attend historic peace meeting if the US insists it give up its nuclear weapons, throwing 'blindsided' White House into chaos.

North Korea said it may reconsider holding a summit with the United States if Washington continues to unilaterally insist on North Korea giving up its nuclear program, the North’s state media said on Wednesday.

Citing first vice minister of foreign affairs Kim Kye Gwan, North Korea’s central news agency also said the fate of the U.S.-North Korea summit as well as bilateral relations 'would be clear' if Washington speaks of a Libya-style denuclearization for the North.

President Donald Trump

Over a decade ago, Libya under then-ruler Muammar Gaddafi agreed to give up its nuclear and chemical weapons program only to have the West lead a military effort to remove Gaddafi from power after the Arab Spring in 2011.

The statement added U.S President Donald Trump would remain as a 'failed president' if he follows in the steps of his predecessors.

The North has also threatened to call off the summit meeting between Trump and Kim Jong-un if the Americans and South Korea went ahead with joint military exercises.
Kim's regime said through state-run news agency KCNA that ongoing 'Max Thunder' joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea are actually a 'rehearsal for invasion' of the North.

The White House made no immediate moves to slow down preparations for the summit on Tuesday.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders simply said:  'We are aware of the South Korean media report.

The United States will look at what North Korea has said independently, and continue to coordinate closely with our allies.'

President Trump last week greeted three Americans who were released from North

Korea as they returned in the wee hours of the morning to an air case in suburban Maryland.
