A pensioner who was left with devastating injuries after burglars ransacked his home and stole £30,000 has died.
Tommy Ward was left with a fractured skull, broken jaw, ribs and finger after the attack at his home in Maltby, Rotherham, in October last year.
The 80-year-old had been received ongoing care following the incident but died at Rotherham Hospital last night, police confirmed.
Two 19-year-old men were previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and burglary but were released with no further action.
Mr Ward, a great grandfather of 15, was thought to have been targeted at the end of September or beginning of October last year.
The ex-miner, who did National Service with the Norfolk Regiment and the Northumberland Fusiliers, was discovered by his care worker on October 1.
