Former Miss Universe Alicia Machado has pledged to vote for Hillary Clinton - after calling Donald Trump a racist who has no idea how much damage he causes.

Machado, now 39, came up during Monday night's presidential debate. Clinton used her story as an example of Trump's demeaning treatment of women.

Clinton's campaign released a new video just a couple of hours after the debate, in which Machado recounts her terrible experience after clutching the Miss Universe crown in 1996 - which Trump was involved with at the time.

Trump, she says, called her Miss Piggy - in reference to her weight - and Miss Housekeeping - in reference to her Venezuelan accent.

The GOP nominee, Machado says, would tell her she looked ugly and fat, and he once invited reporters to watch her work out without her knowledge.

Machado became an American citizen in August, just in time to vote during the general election - and she knows she'll cast her ballot for Clinton.

The Democratic nominee bashed Trump's treatment of Machado during Monday's debate.

'One of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest – he loves beauty contests, supporting them and hanging around them – and he called this woman Miss Piggy, then he called her Miss Housekeeping because she was Latina,' Clinton said.
